Director's Note

By Lalitha Nanduri; 1st April, 2025

Between the laughing fits and the occasional line tangles, our rehearsals for Husband on Hire sometimes feel like a blooper reel in the making but when the cast can’t stop laughing, I know we’re doing something right. There’s a spark that connection to the characters, the blocking that clicks, the timing that makes the comedy land—even for those living inside the scene.

And now, we can’t wait to bring this family-friendly comedy to you and catch your reaction.

I’m a techie, a mom, and a Kuchipudi dance student for life—my journey so far has been a little bit of many things. I’ve been with Katha Munch since its earliest days, as part of it’s Creative Advisory Board. After our first-ever production, the Community Ram Lila, I stepped into the role of Artistic Director for Akbar Birbal – A Musical, and for Indian Matchmaking — a rom-com that found its way into many hearts.

And now, I’m thrilled (and a little emotional!) to make my directorial debut with Husband on Hire—a celebration of retro India, of lovable chaos, and of characters you won’t forget.

At Katha Munch, we’re a bunch of very normal people with an abnormal passion for storytelling and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for all of us.

Warmly,
Lalitha Nanduri
