This year we dared to dream bigger

This year, we dared to dream bigger.

Katha Munch’s original 5th production — “The Legend of Kohinoor” — wasn’t just another stage performance. It was a living tribute to our heritage — a forgotten story brought to life with months of research, writing, design, rehearsals, music, dance, and an unwavering belief that art has the power to evoke empathy and inspire change. This journey allowed me to wear many hats: producer, director, script contributor, and writer of the Hindi poetry woven into the narrative.

We blended classical storytelling with modern innovation — using AI and immersive staging to bridge the gap between what the stage allows and what imagination demands. Where resources fell short or challenges arose, creativity turned them into learning opportunities. After just 1.5 years as a nonprofit, we couldn’t be prouder of how far we’ve come. With an audience turnout of 600+, we are heartened to receive wonderful testimonials and audience love.

My top learnings from this journey:
Does the story resonate?
If it doesn’t move your audience — rethink it, reshape it, or tell a different one. Art must connect deeply to matter.
What is the impact?
As storytellers and a 501(c)(3), we carry responsibility. We continue to ask ourselves:
Are we inspiring?
Are we preserving culture — thoughtfully, and only the kind that uplifts and heals?
Are we evoking empathy and bringing light to lost perspectives and unheard voices?
Are we using our platform for good?
From seeking help to seeking commitment
We’ve moved from asking “Who wants to volunteer?” to asking, “Why do you want to be part of this? What will you contribute? What is your promise to this craft?” Accountability builds legacy.
Innovation is survival
In the creative heartbeat of the hashtag#BayArea, comfort is not an option. Every production must bring something new — in storytelling, design, performance, or experience.

Here’s to more midnight rehearsals. More risks. More storytelling that honors our past while daring for the future. Here’s to preserving fading art forms and creating those that will live on.

The Legend of Kohinoor is just the beginning.
